The Complete DE Rantau Document Checklist

Most DE Rantau rejections are document problems, not eligibility problems. Here's exactly what to prepare — for both pathways.

Before you read

NomadsVisa is an independent consultancy and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation) or any Malaysian government agency. Official DE Rantau applications are made at mdec.my/derantau. We do not provide legal or tax advice, and our fees are separate from any government application or processing fees. Information on this site is for general guidance only and may change — always confirm current requirements with the official source. Details of the Enhanced DE Rantau Nomad Pass Framework reflect MDEC's FAQ (v1) published in 2026; where they differ, MDEC's latest official requirements prevail.

Documents everyone submits

  • Passport — all pages (cover to cover), at least 6 blank pages, and 14+ months validity at submission.
  • Latest CV — your own format or LinkedIn export.
  • Letter of Good Conduct — from your home or current country of residence.
  • Personal Bond form — on the prescribed form.
  • Highest Education Certificate — scanned PDF.
  • Medical Insurance Enrolment Certificate — valid in Malaysia, min 3 months, covering any dependents. Can be submitted after approval, before the pass is issued.
  • LHDN Tax Registration Slip — Malaysia's Inland Revenue registration.

If you're a Remote Worker, add:

  • Signed employment contract stating remote work, job title, duration, salary in USD (or equivalent), and the employer's name and foreign business details. Start date must be 3+ months before you apply; employer must not be registered in Malaysia.
  • Payslips — last 3 months.
  • Bank statements — last 3 months, matching your payslips.
  • Income statement or latest tax return.
  • Employer confirmation letter — optional but strongly recommended.

If you're a Freelancer, add:

  • Signed client contracts — stating scope, duration, and payment terms. You can hold up to three overseas clients or employers at a time.
  • Invoices — last 3 months.
  • Proof of payment — PayPal, Stripe, Wise, or bank transfers.
  • Bank statements — last 3 months, showing income above your threshold.
  • Portfolio / website / testimonials — optional generally, but a marketing report or portfolio is compulsory for digital-marketing applicants.

Renewing? What changes

  • Updated supporting documents — current contracts, income and bank evidence showing you still meet the threshold in force when you apply (USD 36,000 for Tech Talent from 1 December 2026). If you've changed employer or gone freelance, document the change.
  • Renewal Eligibility Report (RER) — mandatory for a second renewal (year 3). It covers your initial pass and first renewal: employment, freelance or business history; income records and sources; and tax compliance, including proof of filing and payment and no outstanding liabilities. Use MDEC's template under Mandatory Documents at mdec.my/derantau. Without it, the application is treated as incomplete.
  • Passport — 14+ months' validity recommended; a renewal can't run past your passport's expiry.
  • Dependants — documents for anyone you're adding, such as a spouse or newborn.
